Highland Cattle at Plockton

Plockton, Highland is a picturesque little town on the shores of Loch Carron.

Plockton's charm has captured many hearts; the town has featured in many television programmes and films, including Hamish MacBeth and Mr Lonely.

It is easy to find your own out of the way spot in Plockton. Maybe to try your hand at fishing, or perhaps have a nice quiet picnic. Do not be surprised if you have an extra guest or two. At times the highland cattle can be seen wandering about the countryside. Sometimes you will have to wait for them to get out of the street if you are driving. They are magnificent creatures.

There are unlimited walking opportunities within a 30 minute drive from Plockton, but there are also good walks to be made from the village itself, including the (essential) brae walk, the lochside walk to Duncraig Castle, and the hike up to the television mast. There are also organised group walks available, in and out of the village.

Plockton has several shops where you may buy gifts or convenience items. There are also several spectacular restaurants. They are well known for their fresh local seafood. There is even a seafood cruise available, and the food is great.

Check out "Calum's" for their seal trips. They will take you sailing on Plockton bay in search of seals. They even guarantee that if you do not see any seals that day, you will not be charged.

Sail to the Seals and view the finest scenery in the world with Calum's Seal Trips, the original Plockton Seal Trip and the longest established boat trip operator in Skye and Lochalsh.

Free if no seals. See my guarantee below.

‘Sadly, during a winter storm, the Argus broke its moorings and foundered on the shores of Loch Kishorn. But the good news is that I have a new boat, the Sula Mhor, which is bigger, faster and has better viewing areas.’ Calum

'To see seals or any wildlife in their natural environment cannot always be guaranteed, because that is nature at its very best. But for 20 years now, I have been running trips and I am confident of finding seals somewhere. If not, a full refund will be given (it's no wonder I ain't rich). With a bit of luck, you may see an otter or two. The views across to the Isle of Skye and the Applecross mountains are unforgettable, and well worth the trip alone.'

Plockton has many bed and breakfasts, and self catering cottages. They also have four hotels and even a bunkhouse. Wouldn't this be the perfect place to stay for your next fishing trip?

What a wonderful destination, only two hours from Inverness and just four hours from Central Scotland. Plockton is a hidden gem worth finding. What are you waiting for?
